Without expertise, lake owners and managers often struggle to understand all of the factors that make a lake like it is.  Without correct management, lakes can become stagnant and develop deep stinking mud, or massive growth of pest plant species.  These can include ‘blanket weed’, blue-green, ‘green water’ or brown algae, duckweed, or rooted weeds like Canadian Pondweed.

These problems can ruin the amenity value of the lake, or worse, cause the deaths of resident fish or even make the lake a public health hazard.

It has never been environment-friendly to treat weeds and algae with herbicides, but it is no longer possible, as virtually all aquatic herbicides have been withdrawn from sale.

Without the benefit of knowledge and experience, it is common for lake managers to try to solve the problems for themselves by using remedies on a ‘trial and error’ basis.  This can be very costly, waste time and might even result in the loss of valuable fish stock.

As a supplier of remedies and services, our approach differs from most of our competitors, because we seek to solve the problem, rather than simply sell remedies .  This is why we don’t sell remedies direct from our web site, because we want to ensure that the most suitable products are used to treat the problem’s symptoms and the causes.  It is often possible to suggest suitable remedies from a simple description of the problems during a phone call or from an email.   However, sometimes it is not possible to understand all of the background factors involved from such discussion.

Every year, we are able to help solve the long-term, worsening condition of a lake with a visit.  This involves the investigation of the lake and its context in the landscape, the collection of relevant samples and arranging for laboratory analysis.  From this information, the causes of the problems are identified, and a programme devised to reverse the decline experienced.  These findings and conclusions are presented in the form of a report.  We have very high rates of success and customer satisfaction.
