FAM 600 Microstrainers from ERM

The FAM 600 range  represents a breakthrough in  microstrainer design, and is protected by patent.  Lateral thinking has lead to the brilliantly simple idea of passing dirty water across the screen from the outside to the inside, giving many benefits.  Typical applications for FAM filters include fish farm outlet channels and fish recycling systems (ideally used with FLTC filters).  The arrangement for the smaller models is conventional (ie inside-out) as the benefits of outside-in flow would be minimal.

The FAM 600 range have many benefits.

The trapping of waste material inside the drum (the so-called  "washing-machine effect") is eliminated,  giving greater efficiency.

The greater concentration of solids outside the drum leads to a higher water level outside than in.  This means that the drum "floats" on its bearings.
Consequently, wear and tear on the bearings is drastically reduced.

Consider the converse design, where the bearings and motor have to bear the weight of the debris and water in the drum.

The patented stainless steel screen mesh is under compressive rather than stretching forces  The screen with this type of filter is under stretching forces, and more likely to result in a troublesome tear, meaning costly downtime.

In addition, the waste water is directly accessible if needed.
The unique action of the drum gently lifts solids from the water, so minimising the break-up of soft debris (such as fish faeces), and  carries them over to the wash zone.  Here a line of high pressure jets on the inside of the drum screen flush adhering solid debris into the waste water trough, and away to waste.
All metal components are stainless steel (304 / 316) including the high quality screen mesh, which is available in apertures from 20 µ to 100 µ. Screen panels are easily removed for maintenance.
As with all ERM products, the FAM 600 range is made according to the customer's available space and straining requirements.
Sites  which are subject to large fluctuations in water level are no problem to ERM.  By fitting hydraulic motors, it is possible to supply FAM 600 machines which are can function while completely submerged.
